Police in Whitehorse say another person has been charged in the death of Aaron Smarch.

On Feb. 13, RCMP said A 17-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder.

The person cannot be identified because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act which bans the publication of names of young people involved in the criminal justice system who are under the age of 18.

The teenager made their first court appearance on Feb. 9 in Whitehorse.

Smarch, 35, from Carcross, was found lying unconscious on the ground in downtown Whitehorse on Feb. 2. He was taken to hospital where he later died of his injuries.

On Feb. 7, Norman Kendi, 18, was charged with first degree murder of Smarch.

He remains in custody.
