Seven members of the Akwesane People’s Fire (APF)are currently facing trespassing charges for occupying a tract of land adjacent to an abandoned customs building.
The Federal Bridge Corporation wants the customs and (APF) buildings torn down, and will drop the charges if they get their way.
But the tract of land in question runs through Akwesasne territory, so last week a judge ruled that the fate of the buildings should be decided by the community.
